CAPS STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES 2/9/2015
ATTENDEES: Krista Burrows, Kati Costello, Sarah Devine, James Gaither, Rachel Grisham, Sara McCracken, Mike McDougal, Virginia Tat, Josh Willmarth, Sherri Bird, Marcey Bamba
Susie Brubaker-Cole, Vice Provost for Student Affairs, joined us at the beginning of our meeting to help answer questions around this conversation. She outlined similarities and differences of each model, as well as possible advantages of each. One question that Susie asked Marcey to clarify with Sherm Bloomer was in the case of a student referendum passing, whether or not the increase in fees due to the referendum would be included in the 5% cap of fees. At the end of the discussion, Susie reminded the Board that this was a decision that would probably have to be made without all the information we would like to have in order to decide (a difficult part of leadership). After Susie left, more discussion was held. A vote was taken to decide if we wanted to vote, and that passed. A roll call vote was then undertaken, with a move to Mandatory Fees narrowly passing. Marcey will notify Priscilla Macy, head of SIFC.
Virginia and Krista were applauded for their poise and preparation in the presentation of CAPS’ budget at the SIFC hearing last Saturday. After in-depth questioning, SIFC voted to pass a 5% increase in student fees to sustain CAPS’ base budget, and possibly approve the decision package of one counselor depending on the availability of funding from the entire Student Affairs budget. This will be decided at the Open Hearing Thursday night (2/12). The .5 marketing position was not approved.
The open hearing is where we will receive final SIFC approval for our budget requests and decision packages. All are invited; this will be held on Thursday night (2/12) from 5-10 p.m. in the MU Ballroom.
In this meeting, SIFC presents the Student Affairs budget to the ASOSU governing body for final approval. It will be held Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the MU Lounge.
