Even a five-minute delay in acting upon suicidal thoughts can change someone's mind, so keeping lethal means out of someone's hands for even a short time can help save their life!

Firearms Safety

If you or someone you know is considering suicide and has access to a firearm, a gun lock can be obtained at the Department of Public Safety (DPS) on the 2nd floor of Cascade Hall or at CAPS after talking with a counselor. The lock renders the firearm unusable and the key should be kept by a trusted person (not by the person of concern). One can also call DPS and request that they come remove the firearm and place it in safe keeping (not with crime evidence). DO NOT bring the firearm to DPS or any law enforcement agency yourself. Call DPS for a pick-up. The non-emergency number for campus is 541-737-3010. In an emergency, call 541-737-7000 on campus, or 911 if you are off campus.
