Confidentiality

We hold your confidentiality in the highest regard, adhering to state and federal laws, as well as the professional and ethical standards expected of mental health providers. Rest assured, the privacy of your conversations with CAPS is preserved with the utmost care. No information will be shared outside of CAPS – on or off campus –  without your explicit written consent. Except in the rare circumstance when there are safety concerns or a court order, your journey with us is a private one, and we honor your right to keep it that way, unless you decide otherwise.

While we recognize that confidentiality is a cornerstone of a safe and trusting counseling relationship, it’s important for you to be aware of the rare exceptions where we may need to share certain information, always with the intention of ensuring safety and compliance with the law. These exceptions are:

  • When a client expresses intent to harm oneself or others.

  • Reports of current abuse or neglect of a child or other vulnerable individual.

  • Compliance with a court order, or

  • When mental illness is presented as a defense in legal proceedings.

There are additional exceptions to confidentiality for clients under age 18. Please contact us at [email protected] or 541-737-2131 during business hours if you have questions about our confidentiality policy for minors.

If you need immediate assistance, please call 541-737-2131.
